Perhaps you could give them an assignment that would correlate--have them
research their own culture--as in their original immigrant roots and then
look at a piece of art from that culture. They could do a comparison paper
or project that shows that piece in that culture compared/contrasted to a
similar subject or medium piece from another culture. It could be as
involved or not--depending on what you're willing to grade. It could also
be very short (3-5 min) presentations on the comparisons. Require AV, such
as prints, slides, charts, etc. As adveristing artists, they need to be
able to present their ideas orally and with story boards, etc., so this
would be good practice. Good luck.
