Reading the requests by you new, young teachers reminds me of my first
few years teaching. No matter how well you were prepared in college you
still go through this process in the beginning. Honestly, I still go
through it at the start of every year, even if it is simply to tweek
what I have done successfully in the past. Someone mentioned the Wong
book "The First Days of School"---it is wonderful for refreshing your
ideas about management and initiating the year. Even though it is not
written for art teachers, per se, it is very helpful! Class management
IS the most important concept. It must be established before anything
"artistic" can happen.
Wondering whether any of you have "recommended reading" lists to share
I believe there was a thread somewhere in the past...anybody remember
how to find it?
My recommendation is not a "teaching" book but rather an inspiration---
"Living the Creative Life" by Rice Freeman Zachary. uh huh
