A Tie-in with Jim Dine could be cool. He does some great tool drawings.
Try googling "Jim Dine Tools".

Subject: Re: [teacherartexchange] First Day Lesson Ideas
I teach high school.
I went through my kitchen drawers and came up with 20 or so utensils
that my
kids probably have never seen and don't know how to use. I am going to
put
each one in separate paper lunch bags. I will have them draw them, sight
unseen; just by feel. Then they will pass their bag to the next person
until they
have drawn five items or so.
Finally, with a big "tada" and flourish, I will unveil each utensil
and
ask the kids what it is. Should be fun for a first day.
