We have really tackled the ceramic dust issue. here's how....
We had a special micro-filter installed in the room to trap the silica
We have our ceramics room floor damp mopped every day by our custodian.
We made personal work area boards (plywood) covered in canvas. Students take
them to the table to work on and then damp sponge them when cleaning up.
These are stored on their side to prevent warping, on a shelf.
Counters are damp wiped every afternoon.
Tools are sponged clean and returned to the storage bins.
The kiln is "shop-Vac" cleaned often.
When students are sanding and cleaning their bisque ware, we require them to
wear a mask and they do it outside the classroom in a huge trash pail.
Remember, always damp clean the room, never sweep. You don't want to
circulate and breathe in the silica dust.
