How are your classes scheduled? (block, daily, trimester rotation, etc.)
Grade 6 and 7 - Art is a 9 week elective
Grade 8 - Semester elective
Advanced Art 8 - year long elective ( All classes meet daily for 50 or 55

How often does your curriculum connect with other subjects (i.e.
history/English, etc.)
Curriculum was written to correlate with other subject. Also each year, a
specific subject is targeted to boost SOL scores.

What are the art requirements for your school? None

Do you have an art club? No

Do you assign homework such as sketchbook projects or...?
No homework in 9 week exploratory classes; minimal homework in grade 8
semester elective; Sketchbook work and special projects are assigned in Advanced
Art 8.

What grades are included in your middle school? 6, 7, and 8

Does the curriculum build upon preceding years or is each year
independent of the others?
Yes - scope and sequence established for all grades

Do you participate in competitions and/or exhibits outside of school?
Annual citywide art show, participation in Audubon Art Show and Airport
Exhibit, PTA Reflections Contest ( We are inundated with requests for contest
participation. Most go in "file 13". I think the solicitors forget we have a
curriculum to teach!)

Are you public or private? Public

How do you assess? Grades are based on effort and participation in 9 week
exploratory classes. For advanced students, I use rubrics, self evaluation,
group critiques, etc.
