Re:[teacherartexchange] top ten, and table artists

One other easy way to teach your top ten or twenty is to have some of
your artists as your table artists. I have six new table artists each
year. I cut out a piece of foam core into 6 interesting shapes and
write the artists names on those. I have a collection now of half price
books large artists books that I cut up to hang two large example images
for each artist (back to back) from the foam core artist's name shape.
They twirl and hang over each table, giving each table group their name
for the year. I just respray the foam core each year and write a new
artist's name on it as I change artists. I put the other images from
the books on the walls. So, on the first day of each year for the past
three years, I have acquainted my classes with the new table artists,
and each group has worked through a page of questions to acquaint them
with all of the artists, sort of like a game. It takes about 15 minutes
to do this. Then we go over the answers together and I get to add some
"speal" to their findings. Voila...they know 6 new artists that will
surface in examples a few times during the year, and they sit at that
artist's table. I can play lineup games based on the table artists, and
I call groups of kids by their table artist's names. I have kids in
2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades in my room, so that gives them 24 artists
to really know by the time they leave my classes for good, plus the ones
I add in my lessons as examples. Couple that with the Art A La Carte
program in my school, and it's pretty painless to introduce them to so
