We are going to a variation on block scheduling this upcoming school year.
The academic classes will be longer (60 minutes) and naturally, those teachers
are complaining about having the kids for the additional time. Unfortunately,
classes like art are getting class time cut yet I would LOVE to have the
students for 60 minutes. Is this fairly common in block scheduling or is this
simply another example of administrators not understanding the need for longer
working time in art? In your buildings, is art ever "blocked" at the middle
school level and if so, how is it fit into the schedule? It looks like I will
have time for passing out materials and clean-up and not much else this year.
