      I believe to get a behavior, you have to teach the behavior---no
matter what subject you teach, no matter if you know other teachers have
probably said it a zillion times and no matter if you think they should know
it already. My goal at the beginning of last year was to be more proactive
than reactive.
    I came up with these rules during a grad class last summer and
implemented them last fall. I teach grades 2-5 and explain the rules to
each grade at an age appropriate level.

The following is my main classroom rule. (I know it's painfully obvious, but
take note of the first letter in each line since I don't know how this will
look on your computer screen.)


And this one expands the main rule:

Actions are choices
Responsible voices
Take a risk
Ideas and mistakes are both allowed
Speak up for yourself
Treat others respectfully

    I feel these rules cover a lot of ground. Just my two cents.
