I teach k-5. I don't use an over all theme, because I relate a lot of
projects to the integrated curriculum. This covers science and social studies in the
regular classroom. I try to fit in drawing activities, various painting
activites, one project with clay, some kind of sculpture, a weaving project, and art
history relating to the projects at each grade level. That way, my kids a
more broad background. I always include many multi-cultural ideas in each grade
level and whenever I can, focus on local or American artists. I stress the
elements of art and principles of design. Hope this helps. Janet
