Red Grooms at the Norton Museum in florida

Date: Sun Jul 27 2003 - 13:12:01 PDT

In the past, I saw very few of Red Grooms pictures, mostly at an old show
at the MOMA in NYC in the 80's. The internet stated that his family
watercolor portraits were not as inspiring as his paper cut outs of outstanding artists
of the times such as Alex Calder and Picasso, Frank Stella, Alex Katz, Joan
Mitchell. Well, I got to say I was inspired. His watercolors of himself and his
family were just as good if not better, because they were closeups that were
painted with spirit and intensity! He even used red china marker to outline
forms, for one of his family watercolors, what a kick in the fanny for all those
watercolor snobs that I always encounter in Florida!
