rush bottom chairs??

Date: Thu Jul 24 2003 - 13:43:35 PDT

Has anyone ever replaced a rush bottom seat in a chair? Is it difficult to learn how to do?

I just talked with a man (who's 70 years old) who's like the ONLY person in my town who does this (he was recommended by 2 furniture repair places I called) and he said that he usually uses twisted paper rush instead of natural fiber (says it lasts longer and he only uses natural fiber on antiques).

Given what he charges, I'm wondering if it would be possible to do this myself, since I've got 6 chairs that should be redone.

Can anyone recommend a really good book on this??
