I teach k-5, about 550 students. All students make a portfolio the first
week of school. I have them decorate it as a self-portrait. They must draw
something about themselves on the front. I keep all of the work they do
until the spring open house. Then all portfolios go home. I use a large
piece of posterboard, color coded per grade level. The PTA buys it for me.
I punch holes in the side and the kids tie yard. I found that works better
than stapeling as it allows the portfolio to expand. Since many of my
projects ar 12x18, the half posterboard size works great.
As for 3-d work, I have students draw a sketch of their completed piece in
the folders before they take the piece home. They also do a self-evaluation
(for 3-5 grade). Some pieces done around Open House time I save for display.
Hope this answers your questions. Janet
