Hi All,
It is always nice when a local treasure can be shared with those far away
through the internet. Here's link and the opening text for this interesting
PAFA online exhibit:

Artists sketchbooks at the Pensylvania Academy of Fine Arts
"The Pennsylvania Academy is fortunate to own a number of artists'
sketchbooks. Because of their fragile condition and sensitivity to light,
however, they are seldom on public view. Sketchbooks are among the most
fascinating examples of artistic production, due to their very personal
nature. Much like diarists record their observations in words, visual
artists reveal their personal response to the world in images bound within
the covers of a sketchbook.

Whether recording the passing scene, travels, or studies for a larger
composition, drawings found in sketchbooks have an intimate quality because
they were, typically, not intended for public presentation. Instead, they
were made for personal enjoyment, investigation, or experimentation, and for
the artist's own compelling desire to draw.

You are invited to turn the pages in a selection of six sketchbooks in the
Academy's collection. As you do so, think of each page as a hidden treasure,
an insight to an artistic temperament and motivation, a heart and soul."

 Hope you enjoy,
Christine Besack :)
