A few years ago, a seventh grade girl who had lost her best friend through
family
violence did a powerful painting about it. There was a gun in the painting,
a broken
portrait of the family, and oher things which symbolized her feeling of loss.
 I thought the non violent message was very clear. The principal, however,
asked (?) me not to include it in a regional show. My student was upset and
so was I.
