I always go back to the expectations. What were the objectives of the
lesson? What are the student''s abilities? I always ask the student if
he/she has done x, y and z. If I get a yes, then I ask for an explaination
of how it was done, and why certain choices were made. Then...if I really
feel they need to work. more..I tell them, I think you need to do more...add
at least 5 more details, work on shadows, etc.
One of the criteria for higher order thinking skills and learning is looking
at your work and being able to revise and edit. The students would have to
do this in any other discipline. I do not believe it hurts the creativity to
ask more of a student.
