I didn't read the original question but I think got the idea from the
responses. I taught in a very, very small classroom for 3 years. Everything
everyone will tell you is helpful. I put up artwork on cabinets and the
small blackboard. Occasionally in printmaking we worked in the hallway on
the floor to print large projects. You had to be organized since since some
students literally couldn't get out of their seats once we pulled the table
up to them.

Now that I'm in a large airy room, I would say that the main disadvantage to
teaching in a small room for me was teaching some of the special ed students
and disciplinary students. These kids do better when they have lots of room
and can stretch out. Also, in a larger room, with more tables, less students
sit at each large table and you can break up groups. Last year I had 8
students at tables where I now have 3 or 4. There is really nothing you can
do about this. I teach high school in a school where there are lots of
discipline problems in the studio classes. The larger room hasn't gotten rid
of the problem but it makes me feel calmer and less clastrophobic and helps
with some of the students. I got my tenure and then dropped hints to the
principal how difficult it was to teach in that room. Best of luck.
