Re: High School Art Club

Date: Mon Jul 16 2001 - 15:09:25 PDT

The success of my high school art club depends on the kids I get to be
members. They must be leader-types for it to work for me. I always have the
students plan meetings with agendas, programs, etc. for the whole year. I
have them make contacts and schedule trips and speakers, etc. I brainstorm
with them in the beginning but the club runs by them. We just establish a
calendar and meeting format and then stick to it. I don't have time nor
energy to do it all- it's like another prep if you don't involve them in the
organization and planning. If I don't have leadership through the kids--the
club usually fizzles by end of 1st semester. Some years it's good, some years
it's not!
