Re: Keeping a sketchbook--high school

Date: Mon Jul 16 2001 - 14:54:07 PDT

I have my art 1 students (and also did this in middle school as well), make a
sketchbook using 9 x 12 Tag board as the cover and a piece for the back and 9
x 12 drawing paper. They are required to punch holes for all sketchbook
assignments and handouts and insert them between the tag. I buy a bag of 1"
metal rings (about $5) -each student gets 2 for their sketchbook. ( I charge
back the students $.25 for 2 rings). My art1 students hand in one sheet at a
time , I correct and hand back, they place in sketchbook. At the end of the
quarter I go through the whole book and make sure everything is in there. I
stress the importance of having a complete sketchbook for those who plan on
taking Art 2 or they will have to do all exercises over again. They are
usually complete.
