carpet yarn and upholstery samples

Okay guys, I just got to visit my new room- I'm taking over as an elementary
art specialist in a few weeks. I went to find out what supplies are there
since I won't be doing an order- that was done by the previous teacher last
The room is well stocked with lots of good stuff- and also happens to have a
ton of upholstery sample books and big cones of old yarn- I want to call it
carpet yarn because it's that old fuzzy, hairy looking stuff. (You know,
orange stuff, and swampy green, and earth tones.) Maybe there is an art
project for these materials I just don't know about????
I am very tempted to throw this stuff out- can anyone tell me why I shouldn't?
