Re: Sketchbooks--a question about logistics

Date: Fri Jul 13 2001 - 20:41:14 PDT

What about creating a rubric and spending 10 minutes at the beginning of one
class period a week (choose a day, Friday or Monday) and have the students
switch sketchbooks and do a peer assessment. You quickly walk around the
room...each week you "randomly" (making sure you check each student at least
twice during a marking period) check say 5 students work. This way you
eliminate your extra work, teach the students about art criticism and
judgement and get in your assessment. Also each week you could have them
focus on a different element for instance, one week have them focus on
texture and value, the next week look for pattern and composition...etc.

Hope this helps!
