In my school, a collegue and I are the web persons too, but it is still the principal that approuve the content of the site... So if ther's something wrong, my collegue and I won't get the blame for it.
I understand that is it not the case everywhere...

  numbers, however, it isn't a power thing but a legal contract of sorts as to
  which people are responsible for up loading to the site. I have to be very
  careful and check everything. Once something is on our school site we become
  libel for any problems that might occur.
