I am currently renewing my ceritifcations in 2 states and have 2 to do next
summer. So far I haven't had to take any teacher certification tests. This
is why I renew before my certificates expire. When my ceritificate in GA
expired...before I was able to begin the process...they required a
TCT...unfortunately I was unable to get to GA to take the test and lost that
certificate. Maybe I was talking to the wrong person...but I was told that
all teachers were going to have to take the TCT within so many years unless
they had a life certificate (few states now offer life certificates and most
are moving to licensure). This was in 1989. I have found that in most
states my experience...20 yrs...all grade levels and a masters + plus
contiuning ed usually exempts any test. Renewal might be easier than
in-state active employment maintanance. In Tn, OK and Oh I have had to meet
certain renewal requirements...so many CEU's etc. No test or lesson plans
etc.
