SANGAMON AUDITORIUM
University of Illinois at Springfield
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH COORDINATOR
Under the general supervision of the Director of Sangamon Auditorium, and
within the Mission of Sangamon Auditorium, the Coordinator will develop
educational and community outreach programs which encourage full utilization
of the Sangamon Auditorium and which strive to develop new audiences for the
performing arts.
Plan, develop, program, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate
outreach programs to maximize accessibility and encourage full utilization
of the Sangamon Auditorium by both traditional and non-traditional audiences
to include the elderly and disabled, minorities, rural, youths, and the
economically disadvantaged.
Class Acts A regional performing arts program for grades K-12.
1. The Coordinator works closely with the Director in selecting artists
and companies that will be appropriate for educational programs and meet
overall Auditorium budget requirements.
2. Development of marketing and sales materials in collaboration with
the Marketing staff, monitor schools reservations and general ticket sales.
3. Development of classroom study and activity guide materials for
teachers and students, teacher in-service programs, and workshops.
4. Attend appropriate children's performing arts booking conferences.
5. Meet and work with appropriate teacher advisory groups.
Educational Outreach
1. Oversee the arranging for speakers and programs for Preshow
Discussion and Questions (PDQ).
2. Establish an active community relations program and partnerships
with other civic and regional organizations.
3. Make presentations to various schools, civic and public
organizations on behalf of the Sangamon Auditorium.
4. Initiate joint artist projects with the local arts community to
include residencies in
community spaces and schools.
5. Initiate adult performing arts learning experiences.
Financial Responsibilities
1. Establish and meet department financial goals with Director of
Auditorium.
2. Seek project underwriting, regional and foundation grants, generate
earned revenue and initiate fund raising projects in consultation with
Director of Development, specifically for educational outreach and
education.
Other Duties as Assigned
To include general supervision of graduate assistants, students, volunteers,
and project work of secretaries.
Minimum Qualifications Required at Time of Application: Bachelors required
in arts or humanities with 4 years experience in presenting the performing
arts (children's programming experience preferred), fundraising, marketing,
grant writing, and teaching.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to: program and evaluate artists
and art forms; create programs relevant to performing arts and education of
grades K-12; work effectively in community partnerships; make effective oral
and written presentations for a wide variety of youth and adult audiences;
establish and maintain effective outreach public relations programs; direct
the activity of volunteers; develop written marketing materials; write or
edit classroom teaching materials for K-12; knowledge of the elements of
producing.
Salary: $30,000 plus Academic Professional employee benefit package.
