I can understand the frustration of many. Last year while my new art room was
under construction I undertook "art on a cart"---only we didn't have a cart--I
carried boxes and big bags to the classrooms. Luckily I teach in a small pre-
k to 8 independent school so I was able to store things in some of the classes
prior to my starting the day. I just remember that I lost 5 lbs. and
developed strong muscles in my arms! The students were always helpful in
carting things back to the art closet. Luckily this only lasted a few months
and we now have a big beautiful art room. I didn't really mind the challenge,
but know it is not something I would prefer doing full time. It did help me
re-think a lot of my lesson plans, sometimes improving the on the lessons.
The kids didn't really mind art in the classroom and they often were more
attentive and quiet because of the "academic" environment.
