Elementary Schedules

I know we've talked schedules before, BUT...I am working with a team of art
> and health teachers to add class time to the master schedule for both health
> and art.
> We currently teach art K-2 two times/6 day cycle and art 3+4 one time/6 day
> cycle.
> My goal is to add more art to 3+4 without taking away from K-2.
> We may add another art teacher or two in order to do this, but the
> administration is suggesting semestering. I would prefer to just add one
> class at 3rd and 4th. Everyone K-4 would have art 2 times/6 day cycle.
> Our current health program meets with K-2 1 time per cycle and 3/4 two times
> per cycle. So they do the opposite of what we do. They want more time with
> K-2. We are working on it together.
> Our mission is to come up with as many scheduling alternatives as possible,
> although I think the one above (Everyone K-4 would have art 2 times/6 day
> cycle/everyone would have health 2 times/6 day cycle) would be the easiest
> simplest to enact.
> Of course, the administration is unsure as to whether class room teachers
> to loose another 33 minutes of instructional time to allow this to happen.
> don't think most of them would mind. They like their breaks!
> So...If you teach elementary, how does your schedule work K-4? Are you
> semestering? I think we have to stay within the 6 day cycle (MS and HS do
> this...although HS is considering block scheduling).
> I need as many ways of scheduling it as I can find. My team of art/health
> teachers will have subs on February 9th and work on scheduling for next
> so any info you can send my way before that would be helpful.
> Thanks!
