Re:Art history

Besides the visual arts purposes already mentioned, one way art history has
been very helpful to me is that as a visual learner, it gave me a framework
to hang all of my other humanities studies on - literature, music, history,
even science.. In my mind I see those periods and cultures and the order in
which those areas developed via art/craft/decorative art. So for other
visual learners, artists or not, I think it is productive.
(this is not what I mean by the above - I learned my early scientists in
junior high by practicing drawing their eyes from the reproductions of their
portrait engravings in my science book while the teacher/coach read the
daily sports pages to us - I can still draw Leeuwenhoek's)
