I cannot imagine my world without knowledge of the past and how it contributed
to the present. As for influencing my work, most artists share ideas and
techniques and look at each other's work. I am a strong advocate of the study
of art history. Any influence would only be positive as far as I am concerned.
After all being influenced is not the same as copying. If you ask any artist,
they will name a number of artists who have had influence on their work. And
that goes for artists of the past, if you could dig them up. I usually show
examples of professional artists, including my own, as well as students. So
far my students manage to do their own thing.
