Re: Copying in art

I have, for years, looked for "ideas" in magazines, books, etc...I translate
these into simple line drawings for young children and teach them how to
copy me line by line. I believe that this is the best way to teach drawing
and I guarantee that any child who takes lessons from me for a few months
will learn to draw. It has to do with seeing the edges. I am training them
to see the edges. Then they can look at other things and copy them. If you
go to Europe to any big museum, you will see art students copying the
masters. They have you do this is college. It works. The old masters
copied old masters. After you can draw, then you have the brilliant ideas
that you can translate into works of original art.
