I have done a very successful sculpture lesson recently. Over the
winter break, I assign my advanced eighth graders to make a sculpture out
of a shoe. The shoes come back wonderfully creative. They are decorated
with anything the kids have at home. Some are painted, paper mached, etc.
This is a very popular lesson. Last year it generated so much interest
that I offered it as a mini-class to sixth and seventh graders also. Ann
Wilschke (from Mi. where the snow is going to melt soon, I hope).
