I frankly don't remember anyone coming down hard on art
colleges. I do remember somebody saying they were glad they had
a liberal arts education, but there must be more that I didn't
pay attention to or something to have elicited this level of
defensiveness.
I personally have a BFA from a university, but I've placed dozens
of kids from high school in both the university and art college
setting, as well as the commercial art vocational program
setting. If I remember correctly, art colleges also require
basic humanities and science classes, and don't just concentrate
on art? But it has been a while. So I personally don't see the
difference. A degree is a degree. I can see more of an
argument ensuing between vocational vs. degree programs, but have
never considered the differences between the university setting
and art school as being that great.
