How about more contemporary (living, active, working) artists like Sam
Gilliam and Martin Puryear? Gilliam does some huge draped things that your
students could try - fabric with splattered paint draped on buildings...and
Puryear (whose name I always misspell, sorry) is the best modernist sculptor
working, as far as I'm concerned. And Colescott (not Warrington) and his
biting historical satires?
And yes, I feel guilty for not mentioning any women...
