At my school, foreign languages are full time academic subjects. Those
students who require resource services are placed in academic support
classes in lieu of a foreign language.
Unified Arts classes are scheduled on alternate days, 1 hour classes,
rotating each quarter. Phys. Ed. is required for 2 quarters and all other
classes are 1 quarter each. These include Art, Music or Theater, Tech.
Ed., Living Skills, Health, Computer.
Band and chorus students go directly to the music rooms upon their arrival
at school and have between 30 - 45 minutes daily. The rest of the student
body has an extra 10 minutes to go to lockers, etc. and must be in
homerooms for a 20 minute Advisory group. Individual instrumental lessons
are scheduled on a rotating basis for 30 min. weekly. This way, the
students are not missing the same class each week.
I'm sure there are many different scenarios, as ours have changed through
the years depending on the enrollment and staffing.
