LOUISIANA ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES RECOGNIZES LLOYD L. SENSAT, JR.
Lloyd L. Sensat, Jr., will be honored by the Governor of Louisiana, at an
awards banquet, April 7, 1998 for his efforts on behalf of teaching the
humanities in Louisiana. The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities made
one of its first Humanities Teachers of the Year Awards to Mr. Sensat in
recognition of his excellence in the Arts and Humanities.
Making a lasting impact on his students by using insights from his own
experiences and accomplishments and a passion for southern history and
architecture, Mr. Sensat used a 1977 Teacher Incentive Grant to implemented
"Education Through Historic Preservation" with the help of the Tulane
School of Architecture. Each academic year his classes adopt an historic
building and interpret it though art, drama, historic research and creative
writing.
A long time member of NAEA, Sensat has served the Association in many ways.
Most notably has been his efforts to infuse historic preservation into the
art curriculum through written guides and handbooks, and developing special
sessions and tours at the last two NAEA conventions held in New Orleans.
He indeed provides a unique service to Louisiana and the Association.
