I enjoyed Larry's comments regarding DBAE and want to inform you all of an
article that I read that was helpful to me in understanding the rationale
for DBAE. The efforts to make art an integral, equal part of the school
curriculum and the idea that it "should be taught by means of formal,
continuous curriculum in the same way as other academic subjects" makes
sense to me. To read what W. Dwaine Greer had to say about this in his
article, "Art as a Serious Subject of Study", please refer to the NAEA
publication, "Research Readings for Discipline-Based Art Education: A
Journey Beyond Creating." It is an anthology filled with many interesting
articles. The one I refer to was originally published in Studies In Art
Education, 25/4 (1984) 221-218.> Enjoy!
