Wendy,
I agree. I was at an art school (BFA) that had almost no written
requirements. A few brave souls stood out to tell us how important it was
to be able to process our thoughts in writing. I have written many, many
"artist's statements" about my work for grants, shows, etc., and always
find it to be a rewarding experience. I have also enjoyed the admittedly
arduous process of writing position papers on arts education, and again I
admit it clarifies my thoughts.

I also did a master's thesis show/ performance that said something entirely
different. I still had to write about it, for those who could not attend!
