If we as art teachers take what we do seriously, others will see this and take it seriously as well. We should also dress seriously. A parent mistook me for a principal once.
I have only taught for a short period of time and people assumed that I had taught much longer. We need to present ourselves this way. This is the way I have always taught. We are already different from the other teachers, we do not need to make it worse. I try to show my students that art is just as important as all of the other subjects. I'm prejudice because I feel that art is even more important. Art came first. What was the first thing created before the alphabet? The lines the cave man drew that he gave a name. We must speak up for ourselves. We need a spokes person to speak up for the arts. Not only do I enjoy painting and drawing but drama and music as well. This world would be doomed without the arts.
