I am an elementary art teacher looking for sources to support the following hypothesis: observational drawing will increase the attention span of elementary aged students over time. I'm tryiing to help a reg. ed teacher get help for one of our students, a 2nd grader who has great learning problems, esp. focusing. She noticed that he could copy an illustration from a book quite well (equal to the others in his class even though his drawing ability is normally at about a preschool level). She thinks if he had more of this kind of practice it would help in other areas as well. I agree totally. Has anyone had any experience with this situatiion? I need some names to drop (Howard Gardner?) when discussing this with admin. so that we can get the student extra support.
