LD kids and Art

I've taught art for nearly twenty years in Wichita on both the
middle and high school levels. My personal experience with LD kids in
art classes is that they represent all levels of ability in art pretty
much the same as the remainder of the school population. I've had LD
kids who were absolutely outstanding in art but had massive difficulties
with the "core" subjects. I've had others who were really low in art
and higher in other areas. I don't think you can make a correlation
between art and "LDness", but perhaps I'm wrong. This has just been my
own experience.
The one possible correlation I see is that sometimes kids who
are experiencing difficulties in the "core" subjects and who have had
some success in art go the extra mile to experience more of the taste of
success. But, there again, I think that's true of the general
population, too.
