My daughter attends the Fine Arts/Science & Technology Magnet School of
about 2500 students here in Tucson. There are four visual art teachers,
and two photo teachers. The photo teacher has a budget of $3000 which was
cut from last year's $20,000. The newly built facilities on the third floor
are beautiful.
In the same district at a school only four miles away, there is one art
teacher and I think a photo teacher for about 1600. Her budget is about
$300 a year. Her room is in the basement in a very dismal building.
What are the advantage of having fine arts magnet schools? Do the
students, not attending a magnet school, suffer any consequences? This
association is doing some research in order to develop a position paper on
this topic before the next fall conference.
If you have some comments or experiences on this tipic, I'd appreciate your
insights.
