I believe the landscape artist Mark refers to in his post is Stan
Hurd. Stan has been featured in the Smithsonian magazine, however, I'm not
sure how long ago it may have been. Three years ago or so, I think.

Perhaps an art reference could be photographer who does landscapes from his
airplane. I can't remember his name, but I'll look for him. Anyone familiar
with an aerial photographer who's work is beautifully abstract looking
bands, lines, and planes of color? We'll need access to images.
