Your idea sheet for drawing sounds wonderful! Would you mind sharing it? Is
there a way you could email it or would you consider snai mailing a copy if
that's not possible?
I think art is a natural area in the exploratory sequence that most middle
schools have -- and that is how it is usually delivered. However, i find that
the 7 week slices of time that I see students for are very inadequate for
what I think art could be in the middle school I have been fighting for years
to be made one of the core subject areas on a regular team with language
arts, math , science, social studies, reading and career ed. No progress
here, but that is where real integration could occur. As our schedule is now,
integration is very difficult or just a token because of schedules. I do
teach a onger ( semester or year) elective class at each level for non band
students. Also. I have a noon hour program which ties into a museum
experience. I think kids need to explore, but I also think many middle
schoolers are ready for depth.
