I teach 1-5 art and often use colored paper as a "frame," or background
for student work. It sets it off and makes it more "important" to the
students, especially young children. I also use neutral colors when the
artwork demands it. I often let them pick their own background colors,
sometimes giving a little advice in advance. Presentation is important. Go
for it!
