Black glue mix & student teachers

Could someone share with me your recipe for the "black glue" that lower
elem uses to outline pictures then paint inside the areas. Mine gets too
thick or too thin and I end up adding a little of this and that to the
bottles. A recipe to mix in a jug elsewhere would be great.

Also, it's almost time for student teachers to start at our school.
(Not in art, but with the elem. classroom teachers.) I wish they would
come along with their class to art and music too, even though the
classroom teacher doesn't. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?
It would be nice if they even came in to observe once during their first
week of observatons. I have only had one student teacher come in to
observe in my nine years, they mostly go to whaat they consider the "real
classes" instead I guess.
