Wendy Ellen Cochran <wcochra> WROTE:
I too was an artist in residence for 15 years before becoming a full time
credentialled dance teacher and I have managed to create the excitement
and red carpet treatment everyday of my career..The problem however is
the professional jealously and horrendous political stuff I get to put up
with by being so well accepted by the kids and their parents and of
course we are very visiable by performing a lot...The good news too is
now I usually always have artists-in-redsidence teaching along side me to
help me with the 250 inner city high school kids I teach per day!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your contribution artsednet. I agree wholeheartedly with your
approach and I hope more will be inspired to do as you do. Although I am a
"credentialed" art educator, am a producing/exhibiting artist. I enjoy
teaching both studio and art education theory classes.
When others tell me they wish their students could have as much fun
as mine do, I acknowledge that I chose my field because I enjoy it very
much and find it very fulfilling myself, and I could not possibly do what
they do, and I honestly admire them for doing what they have chosen to do.
I don't know it its what they want to hear, but its the best I know to say.
