Re:[teacherartexchange] paper that doesn't buckle

The best paper I have used is white drawing paper, at least 80lb. basis weight, that is labeled "sulphite". It is marketed as drawing paper, but the sulphite is the key, along with quality sizing. Both combine to make a resilient paper that will hold up to water-based paints. My experience with papers other than those labeled as watercolor paper, which is too expensive for most elementary schools, is that it is a crap shoot to obtain good quality all-purpose paper. Sulphite is the best compromise I have come up with. I would also look for sulphite construction paper, because it holds its color better and can be painted. It is worth the premium you pay in longevity alone.
