I have blogs and wikis. I can't imagine trying to do what I do on the
wiki on my blog -

I use the blog to post examples of student work, links to videos,
embedded videos, explanations of what we are doing in the room, and a
classroom calendar.

Why the wiki is great for classroom assignments:
I use the wiki for the kids to work on - I have a home page with
assignments, explanations that link to wiki pages I created that may
be for other explanations, rubrics, or collaboration/postings by the
kids.
I can add external links to the wiki where I know the material is
appropriate for kids.
Anything I don't want changed I lock. I can also have the kids post
by a certain time, and then lock the page.
I can see when someone has posted, and any changes they made
(additions and subtractions/editing)
There is also a discussion section to the wiki page - I can monitor
all discussions and delete anything that is inappropriate. (I haven't
had too)
I can also post image and videos
And it is a private area - no one can see it unless I have invited them.
The students can have accounts created by me with log ins and
passwords - they don't need any e-mail account to make a comment.

maybe I don't know enough about the blogs to get the same thing- but
the control I have over who, what, where and when is great on the wiki
- I do love my blogs, but the wiki is a safe environment for the kids
to have discussions about their work (I use them with 6,7 and 8)

Love the wiki -
Ellen
