[teacherartexchange] Arts in the Schools

---------

Every school principal should carefully read the articles in the
recent issue of Principal Magazine
which is totally dedicated to the Arts. I put links to the magazine
on my January 11th blog.

Thank you Christine Besack for posting about this magazine on the Art
Educators list serve.

It seems that there is wide spread knowledge of the power of the arts
in education but so little
implementation. Perhaps this publication will have an impact.

Also - there is an effort started by Quincy Jones. He has begun a
petition to ask
President-Elect Obama to appoint a Secretary of the Arts. While many
other countries have
had Ministers of Art or Culture for centuries, The United States has
never created such a position.
We in the arts need this and the country needs the arts--now more
than ever.

Please take a moment to sign this petition and then pass it on to
your friends and colleagues.
