I had my kids do artist trading cards - illustration (markers, colored
pencil, watercolors, paper collage...) on the front... definition on the
back. It only took a few days for them to realize that they could use
one card for more than one definition... and theoretically one card for
almost all of the elements and principles. All were correct as long as
they could justify or explain the relationship between illustration and
e/p.
I have split the kids into groups before - list of words - define..
create two cards to make a complete set.
It made a great resource when all of the cards were put into card
sleeves and put into one binder.

Like Mary I have used photography with my 6th graders for this, but they
do it as a homework assignment and put together the presentation format
of their choice (digital, album, poster, etc). Some choose themes. I had
one young man take all of his photographs of his father's motorcycle.
These are then shared in class. I have gotten great response with this
and they note how much it has helped them really look at the the things
around them!
