[teacherartexchange] TeacherArtExchange "Netiquette" (unwritten rules)

---------

Greetings TeacherArtExchange list users (and staff),

I know these "rules" are not specifically addressed in the guidelines.

1. Remove email addresses when you make a reply. To my knowledge,
TeacherArtExchange still does not have software in place that removes
(or truncates) email addresses that you post when you make a reply. Do
not be so quick to clip reply.
Look at your entire post. Is the original sender's email address
included? Some email programs do not include the email address
(Microsoft Outlook does not) - but others do (Yahoo, Gmail, AOL and a
host of others). All you need to do is highlight the email address
and delete it from your post. I usually include the name of the
original author (Person's Name wrote:). The guidelines do caution
members about posting email addresses of other members as those
addresses get posted in the list archives.

The number of spam I get as a result of folks posting my address had
declined considerably since I cut down on posting (from over 300 spam
a day to now around 100). Many of the Spam emails I get are now from
my own email address (pretty disgusting stuff, too - with my name
attached to it "judy.decker"). I have already written to Gmail about
this concern and they assured me that they check the original domain
of the email - so I am not in jeopardy of losing my account for
sending spam. I lost one Yahoo account and my Road Runner service
because of the spoofed emails that were sent (was without service a
couple of weeks as I had to prove I was not sending the junk).

2. Digest users: Remove the digest when you clip reply. Change the
subject line to something that matches your post and include a short
blurb from the original post to which you are replying. There should
be a Lyris command that would block the entire digest from posting?

3. Automated responses: Change your system to ignore
TeacherArtExchange posts when you are away from your computer - OR -
as Michal suggested, change your preferences for TeacherArtExchange to
"No Mail" while you are away. It seems to me, there is a Lyris command
that should block the responses from posting to the list.

4. Personal requests for information: When you want to ask just one
list member a question, please send that reply to only the original
member who posted. All email programs allow you to check properties
and get the email address of the person who made the post.

Please do not post replies to this post to the list. Of course, if you
have something to add to it that would help the list, add to the
"unwritten rules" - or rules - as some do violate the written rules.
Just remember to remove my email address when you post.

Regards,

Judy Decker

Note: I have no connection with Getty - but was instrumental in saving
the list for all art teachers around the world. Some of you might
remember my "Getty Pond" that sat on my desk (a beautiful Betta fish
in small aquarium). When the second fish died, I was hesitant to
purchase another.... The third fish died last summer. I have replaced
the aquarium with a lovely Peruvian Nativity Retablo - purchased from
Ten Thousand Villages. I do still have my 75 gallon aquarium with fish
from various parts of the world and get many hours a day enjoyment
from them. I wouldn't let my son take the aquarium back when he bought
his new house last summer (I have adopted all of his fish -- and some
of them I have purchased over the last two years). Of course, we
helped him purchase a new large aquarium for his home.
