Wonder if you could use this idea and do paper marbling on the mat board before cutting, or if the matboard would get too wet and come apart. I suppose you could do the shaving cream marbling method, and then maybe spray with a varnish or something?

I love Mosaics and I did them in class with my Art 4 a few times. However we
did not use ceramics. Instead we made tiles from scrap Matt-board painted with
inexpensive acrylics and glued with white glue on colored Matt-board. After
designing the composition the tiles were painted, dried and then cut on a paper
cutter into squares. The squares where then cut again and glued down as they
needed them. Different colors were kept in envelopes and they worked long and
hard on this. The results were very nice. this could be a way of starting them
or for others who want to do this with out using ceramic tiles. This is not
> better but just another thought.
